How to Return

  1. Complete the Form
Fill out an undergraduate Returning Student Form.
Graduate and International Students: Find your info below.

  2. Check Your Residency Status
If you sit out for more than a year and have established residency before, you may be required to reapply for residency.

  3. Send Transcripts
If you attended any other schools during your leave, send a sealed official transcript to the Office of the Registrar. Allow 6-8 weeks for processing.

  4. Take Care of Outstanding Holds
Before registering, contact the Office of the Registrar to make sure no holds exist. A hold on your account will keep you from registering. Holds can occur if:
    • The student didn't provide necessary immunization documents.
    • The required transcripts weren't submitted.
    • There are fees/fines on the student account (i.e. parking tickets, library fees, tuition fees, etc.).
If you have a hold on your account, contact the Office of the Registrar to find out the necessary steps to remove it.

  5. Pay Outstanding Fees
You are still responsible for any balance owed for prior semesters.

  6. Sign up for Housing
If you would like to live on campus again, you must reapply. The same process and fees apply to returning and new campus housing residents.

Special Notes for Graduate and International Students
If you are returning to UNLV as a graduate student, or as an international student, read this important information.

Graduate Students
Students who withdraw from their program of study and wish to return must first reapply for the program through the Graduate College website. If they attended any other institution after withdrawing from UNLV, they must supply official transcripts as part of the admissions process.

Before considering returning to UNLV, students are encouraged to speak with the department chair (with unofficial or official transcripts in hand) to see whether or not the classes they took prior to withdrawal would still be considered valid for their program.

Courses more than six years old will need a waiver approved by both the department and the Dean of the Graduate College. We count back six years from the time they apply for graduation.

International Students
An international student who has been out of the U.S. while away from UNLV will need to contact the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) to determine whether a new I-20 is required for you to return to UNLV. In order to get a new SEVIS I-20, you will need to do the following:

  • Send OISS the following documents:
    1. Confidential Financial Certification
    2. Undergraduate Students must submit the Returning Student Form.
    3. Graduate students must ask their academic department to e-mail OISS proof that you are allowed to return to the program.
  • International students who are attending another institution in the US must ask their current school to send their SEVIS record (I-20) to the University of Nevada Las Vegas, in the SEVIS system.
  • All international students must meet with an international student advisor in person to show proof of F-1 visa status before course registration.
